NBA, Luol Deng retires after a final day as a Chicago Bulls player

Chicago has announced that it has signed the Lakers player for 24 hours: a symbolic return home, to allow Deng to end his career in the Bulls shirt and to whom they will pay tribute in a race of the next season

Perrion Callandret will have to make up for it, but in Chicago they have been forced to cut him off the roster for a just cause. The Bulls have signed Luol Deng for one day - who has tied a good part of his career to Chicago, before playing with the Heat and then going on to cash with the Lakers in recent years. A decisive player within a group that less than a decade ago, under the leadership of Tom Thibodeau, was among the best teams in the entire League. A natural defensive talent, which later became useful and also useful in attack. Indestructible athlete, he remained on the parquet for the longest of all both in the 2011/12 season and in the 2012/13 season (Thibodeau leaves very little space to catch his breath). Description far from what is the most recent memory linked to its version in Los Angeles: in the last three seasons only ten games played in total, battered by the injuries that have made its impact on the parquet null. In terms of wages, on the other hand, his contract of over $ 17 million a year has greatly limited the room for maneuver of the yellow-violet. Also for this reason it was right to end his career by returning to symbolically wear the Bulls shirt, while in Los Angeles they decided to spread his contract. In fact, despite the withdrawal, Deng will continue to weigh on the Lakers salary cap in the next three years: five million dollars a season, until 2021/22. A reminder, not to forget an agreement that turned out to be totally wrong for the Los Angeles team.

One of the last players left in the NBA among those chosen at the Draft 2004 withdraws. At the moment the only survivors are Andre Iguodala and Dwight Howard (with Jameer Nelson and Devin Harris ready during the season to return to the track, if an offer would come). A year in which the Bulls went very well selecting Deng with the call number 7: We consider ourselves lucky and honored to the idea that Luol has decided to end his career as a Bulls player - says President Michael Reinsdorf - was a professional and a a model to follow in the over nine years he played here in Chicago. One of those who has always given everything to help us win. I want to thank him not only for the results he has helped us achieve on the parquet, but also for the leadership shown in presiding and promoting humanitarian initiatives aimed at the community. Words to which are added those of John Paxton, vice president of the team's Basketball Operations: From the moment we chose him with the seventh call to the 2004 Draft, he made us a better group. We went to the playoffs for eight seasons with him on the parquet. We will never forget his All-Star career and competitiveness; a talent displayed in all games, on both sides of the pitch. Deng is in fact part of the history of the Bulls: 4 for seasons played with the Chicago jersey (10) and scored points (10,286), 5 for minutes on the parquet (22,882) and scored baskets (3,987), 6 for games played (637) . A flag that the Bulls will pay homage to in a home game over the next season.
